SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Margaret Anne "Peg" Palmquist Ransom of
4Libertyville, who passed away on December 6, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Peg Ransom was born in Davenport, Iowa to Margaret
6Victoria Burchell and Herman Philip Palmquist on August 13,
71935; she graduated from Davenport High School and from
8Augustana College in 1957, where she majored in English and
9speech and was named Aglaia (now the National Mortar Board);
10she was an award-winning debater and orator and placed first in
11Iowa high school state debate and second in national college
12oratory; and
 
13    WHEREAS, In 1957, Peg Ransom began teaching high school
14English and speech at Beloit High School; she then taught at
15Lake Forest High School and Warren Township High School; she
16retired from teaching in 1965; she started her business career
17in 1972 at Sara Lee Bakery as a clerk and then worked as tour
18supervisor, market research analyst, and consumer services
19manager; she retired in 1989 as Manager of Public Affairs and
20Public Relations; her favorite recollection was coordinating
21the visit of President Ronald Reagan; and
 
22    WHEREAS, In 1989, Peg Ransom founded Ransom Public Service

1Consultants; her professional honors included being named to
2the Outstanding Young Women of America, Who's Who of American
3Women Millennium Edition, Who's Who in America, and Who's Who
4in the World Millennium Edition; and
 
5    WHEREAS, As a volunteer, Peg Ransom created, funded, and
6programmed a course in human relations for 250 area teachers;
7in preparation for child advocacy, she was a sworn officer of
8the court and was also a literacy volunteer in the county jail;
9she was featured on national television and wire services for
10her rescue of a two-year-old child; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Peg Ransom was a member of First Presbyterian
12Church of Libertyville, the Public Relations Society of
13America, the Grocery Manufacturers of America, the American
14Association of University Women, and Gardner's of Central Lake
15County; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Peg Ransom is survived by her husband of 59 years,
17David Duane Ransom; her son, David Burke Ransom; her grandson,
18Dylan Lory Ransom; her brother, Richard Herman Palmquist; and
19her nieces and nephews, Philip (Robyn) Palmquist, Steven
20(Natalya) Palmquist, Mary (Dave) Petrie, Timothy (Terri)
21Palmquist, Carol (Steve) MacNeill, Steven (Allison) Ransom,
22and Debra (Phil) Williamson; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3Margaret Anne "Peg" Palmquist Ransom and extend our sincere
4condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
5her; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Peg Ransom as an expression of our
8deepest sympathy.
