HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate our colleague Representative John M. Cabello of Machesney Park on his distinguished service to the people of the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Representative Cabello has been a member of the Illinois House since 2012 and has served this body with honor and distinction; and

WHEREAS, Born in Texas, Representative Cabello and his family moved to Machesney Park when he was a young child; and

WHEREAS, Representative Cabello attended and graduated from Harlem High School in Machesney Park; and

WHEREAS, As a youth, Representative Cabello was a member of the acclaimed Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps; and

WHEREAS, Representative Cabello began serving his community after graduation from the police academy by becoming a police officer for South Beloit and later transferring to Rockford, where he became a detective; and

WHEREAS, Representative Cabello volunteered as Chairman of the Machesney Park Zoning Board of Appeals from 2006 to 2008 before becoming a Harlem Township Trustee, where he served from 2008 to 2010; and

WHEREAS, In 2010, Representative Cabello was elected to the Winnebago County Board for District 8 and served until 2012; and

WHEREAS, Representative Cabello was appointed State Representative for the 68th District in August 2012 to fill the unexpired term of State Representative Dave Winters; he was elected to a full two-year term in November 2012; and

WHEREAS, Representative Cabello was subsequently re-elected in 2014, 2016, and 2018, during which time he was a tireless advocate for taxpayers, veterans, first responders, Second Amendment rights, ethics reform, and the needs of Rock Cut State Park; and

WHEREAS, During his final term in the General Assembly, Representative Cabello served with distinction on the First Responders Suicide Task Force to address the emotional health needs of police, fire, and emergency response personnel; and

WHEREAS, One of Representative Cabello's lasting achievements came in 2017 when the Illinois General Assembly enacted the Officer Greg Lindmark Memorial Law, sponsored by Representative Cabello, which requires that police officers receive training in effective recognition of and responses to stress, trauma, and post-traumatic stress experienced by police officers; and

WHEREAS, Representative Cabello has been honored to serve the people of the 68th District, which includes portions of Rockford, Machesney Park, Roscoe, Loves Park, and Cherry Valley; and

WHEREAS, Representative Cabello previously served on the board of two national Republican organizations, Future Majority Project and GOPAC; and

WHEREAS, Representative Cabello plans to continue to serve as a police detective and remain active in civic affairs; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Representative John M. Cabello on his retirement from the General Assembly and wish him all the best in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Representative Cabello as an expression of our esteem and respect.
