SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Joan R. Black of Crystal Lake, who passed
4away on March 20, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joan Black was born in Chicago to Olaf Mikal and
6Flora Lillian (Eliason) Rasmussen on September 22, 1945; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Joan Black was a retired teacher and librarian and
8had a deep passion for reading and inspiring children; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Joan Black was a member of two long-standing book
10clubs and an active member of the Ridgefield - Crystal Lake
11Presbyterian Church community; she was a proud Norwegian and
12her passions included gardening, puzzles, games, and most of
13all, spending time with her family; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Joan Black was preceded in death by the love of
15her life, John H. "Jack" Black, Jr. and her parents, Olaf Mikal
16and Flora Lillian Rasmussen; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Joan Black is survived by her brother, Ralph
18(Dianne) Rasmussen; her sons, Gardner (Stacey) Hjerpe, and Adam
19(Heidi) Hjerpe; her nieces, Tiffany (John) Kees and Lara
20(Roger) Anderson; her stepdaughters, Jackie Torres, Pat

1Breeding-Black, and Laurie (Lewis Toda) Black; 10
2grandchildren, Matt (Christy) Hjerpe, Megan, Rachael, Emily,
3Ella, and Nicole Hjerpe, Renee Thomas, Chris Torres, Vicki
4(Mark) Gres, and Courtney (David) Tucker; 11
5great-grandchildren, Leiah and Landon Hjerpe, Kendall Thomas,
6Chelsea, Wesley, and Paige Torres, Taylor and Travis Walsh,
7Evan, Jolie, and Eme Gres; and an immeasurable number of dear
8friends for whom she was extremely grateful; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Joan R. Black, and extend our sincere condolences to her
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Joan Black as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
