SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of former Wheeling Village President Judy Abruscato, who passed away on December 28, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Judy Abruscato had been a resident of Wheeling since 1969; she was the longest-serving elected official in Wheeling with 29 years in various roles of village government, including the village's Zoning Board of Appeals, as a village trustee for 22 years, and as Wheeling Village President; and

WHEREAS, In 2013, Judy Abruscato celebrated her 35th anniversary working for MB Financial, where she was Wheeling Branch Manager and Vice President; and

WHEREAS, Judy Abruscato served her community beyond her roles in village government by being active in the Wheeling High School Parent Teacher Organization, the Wheeling High School Instrumental League, the Wheeling Lioness Club, the Wheeling Rotary Club, the Wheeling/Prospect Heights Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the Wheeling Garden Club, the Wheeling Historical Society, and the Wheeling Senior Center Foundation; and

WHEREAS, Throughout her time in public service, Judy Abruscato started the holiday Festival of Lights, the Taste of Wheeling, and the Fourth of July fireworks; she also worked to get bulletproof vests for police officers and to create a program to reimburse businesses for improving their building facades; and

WHEREAS, Judy Abruscato will be remembered for her hard work and her service to the people of Wheeling; and

WHEREAS, Judy Abruscato was preceded in death by her husband, Mario, and her parents; and

WHEREAS, Judy Abruscato is survived by her children, Valerie and Tony, and her grandchildren, Nicholas and Jackson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of former Wheeling Village President Judy Abruscato, recognize her longtime dedication to public service, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Judy Abruscato as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
