SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John J. Walkup, formerly of Waukegan, who passed away on November 5, 2018; and

WHEREAS, John Walkup was born to William Marvin and Mary Effie (Wells) Walkup on October 6, 1923; he served in the U.S. Army and retired after 20 years of service; he married Phyllis White in Peoria Heights on July 28, 1944; and

WHEREAS, John Walkup enjoyed metal detecting, tinkering around his house, repairing bicycles, antiquing, recycling, and being a handyman; he remodeled much of his home himself; he was a longtime member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waukegan; and

WHEREAS, John Walkup was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; his parents; his siblings, Estel, James, William, Ralph, Grover, Francis, Marvin, Virginia, and Wilma; and an infant son, Gregory Keith Walkup; and

WHEREAS, John Walkup is survived by his children, Jan (Cindy) Walkup, Janine (Bill) Lopez, and Julia (Clarence) Hagan; his sister, Betty Dirks; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of John J. Walkup and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Walkup as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
