SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Nancy J. Monroe of Morton, who passed away on November 22, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Monroe was born in Cadott, Wisconsin to Floyd and Bernice Hanson on October 10, 1939; her family moved to San Jose when she was very young, and, when not in school, she worked for her father at Hanson's Dairy; at San Jose High School, she was named Junior-Senior prom queen, wrote for the school paper, performed in plays, was a cheerleader, and served as majorette; she was an accomplished baton twirler, competed in regional and national contests, and taught the skill to young girls; after high school, she attended Patricia Stevens Modeling School in Chicago and then Brown's Business School in Peoria; she married Roger Monroe on May 22, 1960; and

WHEREAS, Following graduation, Nancy Monroe worked for the Peoria Convention and Visitors Bureau; while raising her children, she worked for District 150 as a library manager; she also served as the purchasing secretary at Methodist Hospital and as the associate secretary at First United Methodist Church, where she also helped start the Fine Arts Festival; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Monroe volunteered in the Pediatric Department at Methodist Hospital, taught Sunday school, served on the board of the Wardcliffe Homeowners Association, modeled, participated as a PTO member at Sterling School, coordinated an annual fundraiser for the Peoria Christian Center summer basketball program, and worked as a poll watcher; she was a member of the International Order of King's Daughters and Sons; she loved to travel; one of her greatest joys was welcoming her grandsons into the world, and she was thrilled when asked to babysit; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Monroe was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Rosemary Murray; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Monroe is survived by her husband of 58 years, Roger; her sons, Dan (Julie) Monroe and Zack S. (Missy) Monroe; her grandsons, Kyle, Christopher, and Scott Monroe; and her sister, Marlene Blane; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Nancy J. Monroe and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Nancy Monroe as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
