SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of H.W. "Knap" Knapheide III of Quincy, who
4passed away on August 28, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, H.W. Knapheide was born in Quincy to H.W. "Bud"
6Knapheide Jr. and Mary MacDill Knapheide; he graduated from
7Quincy High School in 1963; he received his Bachelor of Science
8in Industrial Administration from the University of Kansas in
91967; he married Ann Winters in Quincy on June 15, 1974; and
 
10    WHEREAS, H.W. Knapheide was the President of The Knapheide
11Manufacturing Company of Quincy and was committed to his family
12business; he showed his love of country by establishing The
13Wall of Faith on the business property; and
 
14    WHEREAS, H.W. Knapheide loved and supported the Quincy
15community with his time and his resources; he was the director
16of the Quincy Area Project, a past chairman of the Blessing
17Hospital Board, and a former director for Mercantile Trust and
18Savings Bank; he also served on the boards of the Quincy
19Society of Fine Arts, the Quincy YMCA, and Adams County; he was
20a founding board member of the Community Foundation Serving
21West Central Illinois and Northeast Missouri; he chaired or
22co-chaired the Salvation Army Campaign of Lights, the Quincy

1University's GOAL 2000 Capital Campaign, the Adams County
2United Way Campaign, and the Quincy YMCA Traditions for
3Tomorrow Capital Campaign; he served on the Board of Governors
4of the Ronald Reagan Ranch in Santa Barbara, California, and
5was a trustee for the KU Endowment, a former member of the KU
6Athletic Board, and a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity;
7he was a former trustee for Monmouth College and a former
8director of both the Illinois State Chamber of Commerce and the
9Illinois Manufacturers' Association; and
 
10    WHEREAS, H.W. Knapheide was a recipient of the Mississippi
11Valley Boy Scouts Distinguished Citizen Award, the Quincy
12Neighborhood Federation Theda Jansen Award, and an Honorary
13Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters from Quincy University; and
 
14    WHEREAS, H.W. Knapheide was a devoted family man who loved
15spending time with his family, especially watching his
16grandchildren grow; he was loyal and dedicated to his friends;
17he was an avid sports fan and especially supported the Kansas
18Jayhawks, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Quincy Blue Devils;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, H.W. Knapheide was preceded in death by his
21parents; his son, Ragan Winters Knapheide; his granddaughter,
22Mary Ann Knapheide; and his brother-in-law, Erwin Wood; and

1    WHEREAS, H.W. Knapheide is survived by his wife, Ann; his
2son, H.W. "Bo" (Erin) Knapheide IV; his grandchildren, Lauren
3Ragan Knapheide, Elizabeth "Libby" McGee Knapheide, and Henry
4Winters Knapheide; his sister, Viktoria Knapheide Wood; his
5nephew, Randall (Gail) Wood and their children, Morgan, Lilly,
6and Cooper Wood; his niece, Amy "Wood" (Shawn) Wills and their
7children, Abby, Mia Margaret, and Fisher Wills; and his niece,
8Molly Wood; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11H.W. "Knap" Knapheide III and extend our sincere condolences to
12his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of H.W. Knapheide as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
