SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John Anthony Shubitz of Waukegan, who
4passed away on September 7, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Shubitz was born in Duluth, Minnesota on July
629, 1938 to Slovenian immigrant parents, Thomas and Mary Subic,
7whose name became Shubitz at Ellis Island; he received degrees
8in philosophy and theology from St. Paul Seminary; and
 
9    WHEREAS, John Shubitz worked at the Diocese of Duluth and
10taught at Duluth Cathedral High School; upon completing his
11master's degree in education from the University of
12Wisconsin-Superior, he spent almost 30 years as a high school
13guidance counselor at Waukegan East High School, and later at
14Waukegan High School; he also oversaw Waukegan's night school
15program for many years; and
 
16    WHEREAS, John Shubitz enjoyed flower and vegetable
17gardening, reading, swimming, cross-country skiing, and taking
18road trips to visit relatives and new places; he also enjoyed
19watching storms pass through the sky and watching all of his
20favorite Chicago sports teams on television with family and
21friends; and

1    WHEREAS, John Shubitz was preceded in death by his
2brothers, Paul (Ann), Tom (Elaine), and Jim (Lynn) and his
3sisters, Mary (John) Glamuzina and Emma (Cameron) Himebaugh;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Shubitz is survived by his wife, Rita
6(Latini) Shubitz; his sons, Mark (Jenny Vasquez) and Steven;
7his grandsons, Jonathan and Matthew; his sisters, Genevieve
8Shubitz and Dorothy Janchar; and numerous nephews and nieces;
9therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12John Anthony Shubitz and extend our sincere condolences to his
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of John Shubitz as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
