SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Jackie Marie Dobbs of Antioch, who passed
4away on July 9, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jackie Dobbs was born to Ed and Betty Blount in
6Gadsden, Alabama on September 19, 1941; she was educated in the
7Alabama educational system and became a special education
8teacher; she married her childhood sweetheart, Alvin C. Dobbs
9in 1960, and they had two children, Alvin Dywayne and Andreana
10Janell; the family traveled extensively throughout Europe
11while Alvin was in the military; when military service brought
12Alvin to Illinois, Jackie fell in love with the changing
13seasons, and they decided to stay and build a home in North
14Chicago; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Jackie Dobbs provided community service around
16the world, wherever her husband was stationed, and received
17numerous awards and letters of appreciation from the United
18States Army for her community service initiatives; once settled
19in Chicago, she then opened and operated a daycare and
20preschool for over 20 years; she taught her students to read
21and communicate in sign language; while serving as the Summer
22Camp Director for Foss Park, she wrote several grants to help
23employ disadvantaged youth as camp counselors; she also owned

1and operated a janitorial service and had several housing
2contracts in North Chicago; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Jackie Dobbs served as the District Coordinator
4for Meals on Wheels and as the Housing Chair for the NAACP; she
5served in many roles in her church, Mt. Moriah Christian
6Center, including as Hospitality Chairman and as a Church
7Trustee; she was a member of the Links, Incorporated, Harbor
8Lites Chapter, where she had served as Chair of the Nominating
9Committee; she was a former member of Jack and Jill of America,
10North Shore Chapter, where she served as Historian and a member
11of the Lion's Club International, Waukegan Uptown Lions
12Chapter; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Jackie Dobbs is survived by her daughter,
14Andreana; her special sons, Christopher and Dennis; her
15brothers-in-law, Ronald and Johnny; her special cousin, Inell;
16her great nieces, Tierny and Tiffany; her special children, BJ
17and Cathy Coleman; and her special friends whom she loved
18dearly, Evelyn Alexander, Deloris Boys, Daisy Brooks, Adrenis
19Hurt, Cynthia Jackson, Catherine Johnson, Patricia Jones,
20Edith Newsome, Elinor Ransom, Essie Woods, and Mary Woods;
21therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
23ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

1Jackie Marie Dobbs and extend our sincere condolences to her
2family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
3further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Jackie Dobbs as an expression of our
6deepest sympathy.
