SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Daryl Thomas; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Daryl Thomas was born and raised on the westside
5of Chicago, where he attended Resurrection Grammar School; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Daryl Thomas was a high school basketball star for
7Chicago-area power house St. Joseph High School in Westchester,
8where he played for Hall of Fame coach Gene Pingatore; he was a
9McDonald's and Parade All-American as a high school senior in
101983; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Daryl Thomas was a captain on Indiana University's
121987 national championship team, where he played for legendary
13coach Bobby Knight and assisted Keith Smart's iconic
14game-winning jumper against Syracuse; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Daryl Thomas earned All-Big Ten honors during his
16junior and senior season and served as captain in 1986 and
171987; he finished his college career with 1,095 points and 419
18rebounds in 106 games; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Daryl Thomas was taken in the sixth round in the
201987 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings; he played professional

1basketball in Europe and South America; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Daryl Thomas returned to the Chicago area and
3worked as an assistant at St. Joseph; he worked for the Chicago
4Bulls in the Chicago Bulls/Sox Youth Academy in Lisle, and ran
5basketball camps in the Chicago suburbs; in 2015, he took over
6as head coach of Montini Catholic; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Daryl Thomas is survived by his wife, Marta, and
8their three children; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Daryl Thomas, and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
12friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Daryl Thomas as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
