SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Brenda Joyce Caldwell, who passed away on October 18, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Brenda Caldwell was born in SoSo, Mississippi on January 31, 1944 to John and Ernestine Moody; she graduated from Shady Oak High School in 1960, where she was an active member of the 4-H Club, Palace of Children, and the basketball team; she attended Central State University and Tennessee State University, where she majored in sociology, graduating in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science; she married Wasdell "Was" Caldwell on April 29, 1966; and

WHEREAS, Later in life, Brenda Caldwell returned to school and enrolled in the University of Illinois at Chicago Jane Addams School of Social Work Master's Program; during this time, she worked a full and a part-time job, continued to take care of her home, and supported her daughter through her first year of college; she graduated in 1988, earning a Master of Social Work; she went on to obtain her license as a clinical social worker and was employed by the State of Illinois Department of Mental Health; she retired in 2003 after 36 years of public service; and

WHEREAS, Brenda Caldwell was baptized at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church; she was an active member of the church, participating in the BTU and the Usher Board, and was the secretary of Sunday school; on relocating to Illinois, she joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, where, when able, she was a faithful and active member; and

WHEREAS, Brenda Caldwell was preceded in death by her parents; and

WHEREAS, Brenda Caldwell is survived by her husband of 49 years, Wasdell; her 2 children, Michael and Michelle (Darnell); her grandchild, Malik Caldwell; her brother, John E. Moody; her sister, Belinda Simmons; her mother-in-law, Cordia Caldwell; her sister-in-law, Ann (Richard); Linda Jean (Ken); Mary; her brother-in-law, Frank Earl; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and family friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Brenda Joyce Caldwell, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Brenda Caldwell as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
