SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James S. Tonyan of McHenry, who passed
4away on February 25, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, James Tonyan was born in Chicago on July 4, 1945
6to Sylvester "Wes" and Elsie (nee Stebley) Tonyan; he graduated
7from McHenry High School in 1963 and from Marquette University
8in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration;
9he entered the United States Army as a 1st Lieutenant in 1969,
10and achieved the rank of Captain while serving 2 tours of duty
11in Vietnam; he married Laurie Mitchell on December 21, 1974 at
12the chapel of Monroe Hospital in Monroe, Wisconsin; and
 
13    WHEREAS, After being discharged, James Tonyan returned
14home to work alongside his father at the family business,
15Tonyan Brothers; and
 
16    WHEREAS, James Tonyan served 12 years on the McHenry
17Community High School Board of Education from 1974-1986, and
18held several offices during that time; and
 
19    WHEREAS, James Tonyan enjoyed taking trips with his family
20and his good friend, Ed, who accompanied him to many Civil War
21memorial sites as well as the World War II site of the Normandy

1landing; and
 
2    WHEREAS, James Tonyan was preceded in death by his parents,
3and by his sister, Audrey Regner; and
 
4    WHEREAS, James Tonyan is survived by his wife of 39 years,
5Laurie; his children, Lindsay Tonyan and Wesley (Rebecca)
6Tonyan; his grandchildren, Makaelyn and Rylinn; his
7brothers-in-law, John Regner, Thomas (Jennifer) Mitchell, and
8Daniel Mitchell; his sister-in-law, Michele (Ted) Moore; his
9niece, Sara (Franz) Kuehnrich; his nephews, John Regner, Jr.
10and Daniel Lee Moore; and his great-nieces and great-nephews,
11Audria, Philip, William, Jacob, and Tea'; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14James S. Tonyan, and extend our sincere condolences to his
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of James Tonyan as an expression of our
19deepest sympathy.
