SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Geraldine "Gerri" E. Wood of Springfield, who passed away on February 23, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Geraldine Wood was born on March 17, 1933 in Springfield; her parents were Victor and Zenith Heckethorn Pearson; she married Roland Wood on February 9, 1952; and

WHEREAS, Geraldine Wood was a caregiver to special needs women for the past 28 years; she also retired as a bakery manager at Eagles Food Center after many years of service; and

WHEREAS, Geraldine Wood was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, the Eagles Auxiliary, and the Disabled American Veterans Women's Auxiliary; she was also an avid supporter and past volunteer of the Special Olympics; and

WHEREAS, Geraldine Wood enjoyed fishing, gaming, spending time with her grandchildren and friends, and watching the Fighting Illini and St. Louis Cardinals; and

WHEREAS, Geraldine Wood was preceded in death by her husband, Roland; her parents; her son, David; her 2 brothers; and her 4 sisters; and

WHEREAS, Geraldine Wood is survived by her daughters, Rhonda (Eric Runkel) Wood, Sheila Smith, and Jennifer (Craig) Johnson; her son, Dennis (Jessica Greene) Wood; her 14 grandchildren; her 8 great-grandchildren; her sister, Norma Estes; her brother, Don Pearson; and her many nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Geraldine "Gerri" E. Wood; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Geraldine Wood as an expression of our sympathy.
