SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply
3saddened to learn of the death of Hershall E. Lee of Danville,
4who passed away on December 10, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Hershall Lee was born on September 27, 1931, in
6Westville, to Lawrence and Nora Wamsher Lee; he attended
7Fairchild, Union, and Lincoln grade schools; he graduated from
8Danville High School in 1950 and attended Danville Junior
9College, the University of Illinois, and graduated from Eastern
10Illinois University; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Hershall Lee enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in
121950 and was honorably discharged in 1954; he did his basic
13training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, and
14military school at Fort Lee, Virginia; he served at Reese in
15Lubbock, Texas, and during the Korean War he was with the 5th
16Air Force Advance Headquarters near Seoul, South Korea; he
17finished his time in the Air Force at Chanute Air Force Base in
18Rantoul; he was awarded a Letter of Commendation, the rank of
19staff sergeant, 4 medals, and 2 battle stars; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Hershall Lee married Marian Stockanes on May 12,
211962, with whom he had 2 children, Larry Lee and Sylvia Lee; he
22later married Katherine Scarlett in 1975, with whom he had 2

1more children, Daniel Grinestaff and Jennifer Lee; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Hershall Lee became a certified purchasing
3professional in 1985; he spent most of his years in the field
4of supervision and management for Allied Signal, Incorporated;
5he retired in 1994; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Hershall Lee played an instrumental role in the
7development and dedication of the Vermilion County
8Korean/Vietnam War Memorial in Danville, as well as the
9Illinois Korean War Memorial in Springfield; he founded the
10Illinois Korean War Veterans' first chapter in Danville; he
11helped develop several other programs for veterans and was
12heavily involved in groups such as the American Legion Post
13210, AMBUCS, POW/MIA, and many others; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Hershall Lee was preceded in death by his parents,
15Lawrence and Nora Wamsher Lee; his son, David Grinestaff; his
16brothers, George, Charles, Ernie, Bob, and Jack; and his
17sisters, Pauline Lee, Ruby Cripe, Hazel Lamb, and Wilma Nipper;
18and
 
19    WHEREAS, Hershall Lee is survived by his first wife, Marian
20Stockanes; his children, Larry Lee and Sylvia Lee; his
21granddaughter, Stephanie Hayward; his second wife, Katherine
22Scarlett; his children, Daniel Grinestaff and Jennifer Lee; his

1sister, Fannie Buck; his brother, David (Betty) Lee; and many
2nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
5Hershall Lee, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
6family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
7further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Hershall Lee as an expression of our
10deepest sympathy.
