SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Don Dunavan of Danville, who passed away on February 7, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Don Dunavan was born on November 22, 1946 in Danville to Ralph and Ellen (nee Story) Dunavan; and

WHEREAS, Don Dunavan worked at the Hyster Company as a tool and die maker for over 30 years; he was part of the Union Executive Committee for 18 years, serving as President for 5 years; and

WHEREAS, Don Dunavan was the Democrat County Chairman from 2002 to 2010 and served as Vice-President of the Presidential Committee during President Obama's 2008 presidential race; and

WHEREAS, Don Dunavan was the late-model track champion at the Vermilion County Speedway; he was a 42-year member of the Masonic Lodge and of the Scottish Rite since 1976; he was a fan of the Chicago Bears and the Illini and was a member of "the chain gang" at Bismarck High School for 38 years, never missing a game; he was an avid Sprint Car fan and enjoyed spending winters in Eustis, Florida for Speed Week and Bike Week; he also enjoyed riding his Harley, going to motorcycle events, and attending H.O.G. rallies; he liked to travel to flea markets in Florida and help people with mowing and plowing snow; he was a member of Crossroads Christian Church and enjoyed skiing, golf, deer hunting, country line dancing, and rodeos; and

WHEREAS, Don Dunavan was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife, Sondra; and

WHEREAS, Don Dunavan is survived by his brother, Dan (Katy) Dunavan; his sister, Mary Jo (Marvin) McDonald; his daughters, Desire (Chad) Wear and Tamara (Chris) Gudauskas; his grandchildren, Marshall and Donavan Gudauskas; and his special friend, Joellyn Krauel; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Don Dunavan, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Don Dunavan as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
