SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of William R. "Chatter" Chaplain of Benton,
4who passed away on January 17, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, William Chaplain was born on August 2, 1929 in
6Benton; his parents were Harley and Hazel (nee Bain) Chaplain;
7he married Beverly Boeck on November 16, 1985; and
 
8    WHEREAS, William Chaplain served his country as a member of
9the United States Army Air Force's 97th Bombardment Wing, 8th
10Air Force of the 810th Division, having attained the rank of
11sergeant; and
 
12    WHEREAS, In 1956, William Chaplain became a co-owner and
13operator of McCann-Chaplain Pharmacy; in 1966, he became a
14co-owner and operator of Kimmel-Chaplain Pharmacy, serving in
15that capacity until 1979; he also was the former owner of
16Southern Illinois Office Mart in Benton; and
 
17    WHEREAS, William Chaplain was an investor, owner,
18operator, and producer of many oil wells throughout southern
19Illinois; he also worked in the coal industry, holding United
20Mine Workers of America jobs with Inland Steel, Consolidated
21Coal, and Old Ben Coal; and

1    WHEREAS, William Chaplain served as president of the
2Franklin County Fair for 18 years; he also served on the
3Illinois Department of Public Aid Board of Directors in Benton,
4the Benton Community Bank Board of Directors, the Rend Lake
5Conservancy District Board of Directors, and Benton City
6Economic Development; and
 
7    WHEREAS, William Chaplain was a 50-year member of First
8Baptist Church in Benton and a member of the American
9Legion/Veterans of Foreign Wars in Benton and the Boccie Ball
10Club in Benton; and
 
11    WHEREAS, William Chaplain was preceded in death by his
12first wife, Mary Lou Peyton; his parents; his daughter, Leslie
13Sue Chaplain; and his siblings, Jack Chaplain and Frances
14Henry; and
 
15    WHEREAS, William Chaplain is survived by his wife, Beverly
16Chaplain; his children, William P. Chaplain, Todd (Dawn)
17Andres, John (Hilda) Andres, and Holly (Brian) Wyant; his
18grandchildren, William Gail Chaplain, Meredith (Rob) Ticer,
19Alexa Wyant, Neal Andres, Nina Andres, and Adam Andres; and his
20great-grandchild, Abigail Ticer; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
2family and friends, mourn the passing of William R. "Chatter"
3Chaplain; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of William Chaplain as an expression of
6our sympathy.
