SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Betsy Ann M. (nee Meerschaut) Foxwell of
4Park Ridge, who passed away on January 22, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Betsy Ann Foxwell was a native of Chicago and
6attended Lake Forest College, where she was a member of Alpha
7Xi Delta Sorority; she graduated from the University of
8Wisconsin-Madison; she married Warren R. Foxwell; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Betsy Ann Foxwell taught 8th grade in Chicago
10Public Schools for over 37 years, including nearly 2 decades at
11DeWitt Clinton School on the North Side; she received the Kate
12Maremont Foundation Dedicated Teachers Award; and
 
13    WHEREAS, After retirement, Betsy Ann Foxwell started her
14own educational not-for-profit program, Chicago Area Problem
15Solving (CAPS), providing critical thinking curriculum for
16elementary and high school classrooms; she also worked with the
17Decatur Classical School's history fair team and with the
18Chicago Metro History Fair; and
 
19    WHEREAS, In 2006, Betsy Ann Foxwell helped to found the
20Kalo Foundation and served as President; under her leadership,
21the Kalo Foundation has hosted programs and special events to

1celebrate local art history; in 2011, the Foundation purchased
2the Alfonso Iannelli home and studios, now a Park Ridge
3landmark, and heritage center where the city's art legacy can
4be shared; the project earned a Governor's Home Town Award for
52011; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Betsy Ann Foxwell was a member of the Twentieth
7Century Club and its foundation, scholarship chairman for the
8Park Ridge Panhellenic Club, and she worked with fundraisers
9for projects ranging from the Northwestern University
10Settlement, Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care to the Park
11Ridge Youth Campus, where she helped with their annual designer
12showcase home tours; she was also part of the Maine Center
13Auxiliary's Christmas House Tour committee for many years and
14she was secretary for the Brickton Art Center; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Betsy Ann Foxwell belonged to the Park Ridge
16Jaycee Women's Club, serving as President from 1975-1976,
17during which time the club won "Outstanding Chapter" for the
18State of Illinois; from 2009 to 2011, she served as member of
19the Park Ridge City Centennial Committee, and in 2010, she was
20named a Park Ridge Community Star by the Park Ridge Chamber of
21Commerce; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Betsy Ann Foxwell is survived by her husband,
23Warren; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leo G. and

1Elizabeth Foxwell; and by nieces, nephews, cousins,
2godchildren, and many friends; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
5Betsy Ann M. Foxwell, and extend our sincere condolences to her
6family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
7further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Betsy Ann Foxwell as an expression
10of our deepest sympathy.
