SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Lexie Kamerman of Chicago, who passed away on January 17, 2014 in Kabul, Afghanistan; and

WHEREAS, Lexie Kamerman was a 2008 graduate of Knox College in Galesburg, where she was an active and engaged student, with majors in Anthropology, Sociology, and Environmental Studies; she served as a leader in the Pi Beta Phi sorority and on the college's water polo team, carrying the team to the Collegiate Water Polo Association's Women's National Club championship; and

WHEREAS, Lexie Kamerman was a global citizen and went to Afghanistan following her graduation to help build the student development program at the American University; she trained women as resident assistants to help educate them to be the Afghan leaders of the future; and

WHEREAS, Lexie Kamerman was a deep thinker and a fearless advocate for a better world; and

WHEREAS, Lexie Kamerman was the beloved daughter of Alison Pohn and Jack McCarthy; the cherished niece of Jeff Pohn (Possy Holmes), Lisa (Jonathan) Levy, Julie (Adam) Pfeffer, Susan (Edward) Ocasek-Clayton; and the loving cousin of Gigi Braybrooks, Danny, Simon, Joey, and Henry Levy, and Ben, Will, and Molly Pfeffer; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Lexie Kamerman, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lexie Kamerman as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
