SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Kenneth "Kenny" DeYoung of Las Vegas, Nevada, formerly of Gurnee, who passed away on September 9, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Kenneth DeYoung was born on November 24, 1937 to Sam and Myrtle DeYoung; he graduated from North Chicago High School in 1956, where he starred at left tackle and was co-captain of the varsity football team; he also played on the varsity golf team and served as Vice-President of the first Warhawks Letterman's Club; he married Lois Semrau in Coleman, Wisconsin on September 9, 1959 and they settled in North Chicago; they relocated to Gurnee in 1971; and

WHEREAS, Kenneth DeYoung worked as a structural iron worker and was a life-long member of Local #1, Iron Workers of America; and

WHEREAS, Kenneth DeYoung was a 6-year member of the United States Marine Reserves; he also served as a volunteer fireman with the North Chicago Fire and Rescue Squad for 10 years; he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Saint Gilbert Catholic Church in Grayslake, and the Gagewood Lions Club, where he was honored with the prestigious Melvin Jones Award; he happily played the role of Santa Claus at the Lions' Annual Christmas Party for 17 years; and

WHEREAS, Kenneth DeYoung was a loyal fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears; he enjoyed playing poker with the Warhawk Poker Club and, after his retirement to Las Vegas, at the local casinos; he also enjoyed driving his motor home throughout the West, often hitting Yellowstone National Park and Cubs' spring training games; and

WHEREAS, Kenneth DeYoung was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ed DeYoung; and his sisters, Delores (the late Jerry) Willis and Marcella (the last Sam) Adams; and

WHEREAS, Kenneth DeYoung is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lois; his children, Brian (Sue) DeYoung, Debra (Randy) Blum, and Noreen DeYoung; his grandchildren, Lauryn (Chris) Otero, Lane (Matthew) Magera, Douglas Blum, and John and Rachael Blum; and his great-grandchildren, Caidence and Levi Otero and Skye Magera; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Kenneth "Kenny" DeYoung, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Kenneth DeYoung as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
