SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Frances Kelly, who passed away on December 10, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Frances Kelly graduated from Barat College in Lake Forest; and

WHEREAS, Frances Kelly taught in Catholic and public schools for many years; she also started the first Montessori School in Waukegan in 1968; and

WHEREAS, Frances Kelly was well-regarded as a gifted artist and singer; in the 1940s, she joined her sisters, Gerrie and Jane, to sing at USO shows, traveling to Army, Navy, and Marine Corps bases throughout the United States; much of their free time was spent visiting the wounded veterans in military hospitals; and

WHEREAS, Frances Kelly lived her life for Jesus; she attended Mass every day and spent many hours in prayer; and

WHEREAS, Frances Kelly was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ellen Kelly; her brothers, Tom (Anita) Kelly and John (Sue) Kelly; and her sisters, Mary (Vernon) Karasek, Margie (James) Huffine, and Dorothy (Stanley) Durka; and

WHEREAS, Frances Kelly was the beloved sister of Ginger Durkin, Gerrie Keirnan, and Jane Kennedy; she is also survived by her many nieces and nephews and her many other family members; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Frances Kelly; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Frances Kelly as an expression of our sympathy.
