SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dr. Antonio Ramos of Chicago; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Dr. Antonio Ramos was born on November 9, 1925, in
5Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, Mexico; he graduated from the
6University of Mexico City as a doctor in surgery in 1950; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. Antonio Ramos came to the United States
8following his graduation; his first job in the U.S. was working
9for the Nabisco Company as his medical degree from Mexico was
10not recognized; he worked in the fields of Wisconsin picking
11tomatoes before finally being approved for an internship at
12Holy Cross Hospital from 1951 to 1952; he did his residency in
13general surgery at Grace Hospital in Welsh, West Virginia, from
141952-1958; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Dr. Antonio Ramos returned to Chicago and
16performed a second residency at Hines Veterans Hospital, which
17was then part of Loyola University from 1961 to 1966; during
18this time, he earned a masters of science degree from the
19University of Illinois; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Dr. Antonio Ramos started his own practice on
21Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago; he eventually moved it to Ashland

1Avenue in the Lakeview neighborhood where he would spend the
2next 20 years; during this time, he was a Chicago Blackhawks'
3team doctor; he opened another clinic on 19th and Blue Island
4in August of 1987; he is fondly known throughout the Pilsen
5community as "el doctor del barrio" or "the doctor of the
6community"; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. Antonio Ramos is survived by his wife, Ana
8Laura Ramos; his sons, Antonio and Jose Arturo Ramos; and his
9daughters, Ana Maria and Angelica Ramos; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Dr. Antonio Ramos, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Dr. Antonio Ramos as an expression
17of our deepest sympathy.
