SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert "Bob" Popovich, who passed away on
4November 18, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Popovich was born on November 21, 1931 in
6East Chicago, Indiana; he graduated from Ball State University
7in 1954 with a degree in Business Education and Business
8Administration; he was Vice-President of the Senior Class and a
9founding member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and played
10varsity baseball and tennis; he later earned a master's degree
11from the University of Chicago and served in the United States
12Army from 1954 to 1956; he married Elizabeth C.
13McArthey-Nantell in 1955; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Robert Popovich began his teaching career at
15Thornwood Fractional High School in Calumet City; he was a
16guidance counselor at Homewood-Flossmoor High School in
17Flossmoor and a guidance director at Warren Central High School
18in Indianapolis, Indiana; he was the founding President of both
19the Illinois and Indiana School Counselors' Association and
20officiated both high school and college basketball games; he
21was an adjunct instructor at Indiana University and taught
22psychology at McHenry County College from 1968 until his
23retirement in 1992; he was recognized as a "teacher of the

1year" many times throughout his career; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Robert Popovich also worked as a real estate
3broker in McHenry, earning multiple top awards over the years;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Popovich spent much of his retirement
6advocating for better services for those with brain injuries;
7he helped establish the McHenry County Brain Injury Task Force,
8served as a resource on various advisory committees at the
9Rehab Institute of Chicago, and served as a Vice-President of
10the Illinois Brian Injury Association; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Robert Popovich is survived by his wife,
12Elizabeth; his children, Marcia (Tom) Munn, David (Haleema),
13Jeffery, Thomas, Nancy E. Popovich, and Scott (Jerly); his
14grandchildren, David, Sarah, Rachel, Jack, Julia, Jillian,
15Keirsten, and Joshua; his sister, former Indiana State Senator
16Rose Ann Antich; his nephew, March Antich; and thousands of
17former students; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Robert "Bob" Popovich, and extend our sincere condolences to
21his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
22further

3our deepest sympathy.
