SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of William "Bill" Grimes of Mattoon, who
4passed away on January 31, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, William Grimes was born on April 25, 1929, in
6Charleston; his parents were Arthur William and Anna Grimes; he
7married Wanda Bartimus on June 25, 1949; and
 
8    WHEREAS, William Grimes served his country with pride as a
9member of the United States Army; and
 
10    WHEREAS, William Grimes was employed with the Illinois
11Central Railroad as a Safety Director for 19 years; he also
12served as a manager at Easter Electric Supply and Schillings
13Greenwood Sloan and was a real estate agent at McCrocklin
14Realty; and
 
15    WHEREAS, William Grimes served in many offices within the
16Republican Party; he most notably served as the Coles County
17Treasurer for 12 years; and
 
18    WHEREAS, William Grimes was an active member of the Elks
19for many years, serving as the Illinois State President and
20holding the national title of Grand Esteemed Leading Knight; he

1was instrumental in the organization of Babe Ruth Baseball in
2Mattoon and was honored with the dedication of Grimes Field at
3Peterson Park for his work; he spent several years serving as
4the State Babe Ruth President and 16 years on the Mattoon Park
5Board; he was also a member of the First United Methodist
6Church; and
 
7    WHEREAS, William Grimes was honored by the Modern Woodmen
8as their Man of the Year in 2012 for his service to the Mattoon
9community; and
 
10    WHEREAS, William Grimes enjoyed golfing, fishing,
11baseball, and spending time with his family; and
 
12    WHEREAS, William Grimes was preceded in death by his
13parents and his brother, Robert Grimes; and
 
14    WHEREAS, William Grimes is survived by his wife, Wanda; his
15daughter, Susan (Dennis) Cisna; his granddaughter, Michelle
16(Chad) Wicklander; his grandson, Doug (Audra) Cisna; and his
17great-grandchildren, Lexie Wicklander, Bode Wicklander, Brady
18Wicklander, Jesse Wicklander, and Riayn Cisna; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
21his family and friends, the passing of William "Bill" Grimes;

2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to the family of William Grimes as an expression of
4our sympathy.
