SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John H. "Jack" Wallace, Sr., who passed away on September 14, 2013; and

WHEREAS, John Wallace, Sr. was born on March 17, 1921 in Pitcairn, Pennsylvania; he completed boot camp at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in North Chicago and served as a Gunner's Mate during World War II in the South Pacific Theater; after the war, he graduated from Indiana State Teachers College (now Indiana University of Pennsylvania); he married Alta Mary Middlehurst in 1950 and they settled in Waukegan in 1954; and

WHEREAS, John Wallace, Sr. completed his master's degree from Roosevelt University in Chicago and studied at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and Northern Illinois University in DeKalb; he began his teaching career in Pennsylvania, eventually teaching at North Chicago Community High School from 1954 to 1984, retiring as Chairman of the Business Education Department; and

WHEREAS, John Wallace, Sr. was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and volunteered for many years at the Waukegan Public Library; and

WHEREAS, John Wallace, Sr. was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Alta; and

WHEREAS, John Wallace, Sr. is survived by his sister, Dorothy (Donald Fails); his daughters, Laurie (Ronald Steckel) and Mary Lynn; his son, John H., Jr. (Carol); his grandchildren, Heather Steckel (Jason Victor), Bryan Steckel (Lindsay), and Katherine Wallace (Jarred Hill); and his great-grandson, Jackson Victor; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of John H. "Jack" Wallace, Sr. and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Wallace, Sr. as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
