SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John H. "Jack" Wallace, Sr., who passed
4away on September 14, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Wallace, Sr. was born on March 17, 1921 in
6Pitcairn, Pennsylvania; he completed boot camp at the Great
7Lakes Naval Training Center in North Chicago and served as a
8Gunner's Mate during World War II in the South Pacific Theater;
9after the war, he graduated from Indiana State Teachers College
10(now Indiana University of Pennsylvania); he married Alta Mary
11Middlehurst in 1950 and they settled in Waukegan in 1954; and
 
12    WHEREAS, John Wallace, Sr. completed his master's degree
13from Roosevelt University in Chicago and studied at the
14University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and Northern
15Illinois University in DeKalb; he began his teaching career in
16Pennsylvania, eventually teaching at North Chicago Community
17High School from 1954 to 1984, retiring as Chairman of the
18Business Education Department; and
 
19    WHEREAS, John Wallace, Sr. was an active member of the
20First United Methodist Church and volunteered for many years at
21the Waukegan Public Library; and

1    WHEREAS, John Wallace, Sr. was preceded in death by his
2wife of 57 years, Alta; and
 
3    WHEREAS, John Wallace, Sr. is survived by his sister,
4Dorothy (Donald Fails); his daughters, Laurie (Ronald Steckel)
5and Mary Lynn; his son, John H., Jr. (Carol); his
6grandchildren, Heather Steckel (Jason Victor), Bryan Steckel
7(Lindsay), and Katherine Wallace (Jarred Hill); and his
8great-grandson, Jackson Victor; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11John H. "Jack" Wallace, Sr. and extend our sincere condolences
12to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
13it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of John Wallace, Sr. as an expression
16of our deepest sympathy.
