SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Jasper "Jay" S. Owens of Beach Park, who
4passed away on July 14, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jasper Owens was born on July 9, 1940, in
6Waukegan; he grew up in Chicago and graduated from Waller High
7School in 1959; he was stationed in Germany for 3 years while
8serving in the United States Army; he married Nancy Lindquist
9in June 1967 in Waukegan; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jasper Owens worked for A&P for 22 years and also
11in physical plant services at New Trier High School for 20
12years; he retired in 1998; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Jasper Owens was a member of Saint Mark's Lutheran
14Church in Waukegan, where he served on the church council, the
15finance committee, the technology council, and spent time doing
16the grocery shopping for the yearly pasty sale; he was an avid
17fan of the Chicago Bears, Chicago White Sox, and NASCAR; he
18enjoyed spending time with his dog, Jake, and feeding the
19birds; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Jasper Owens was preceded in death by his father,
21Jasper S. Owens; his mother, Ina Owens Matz; his step-father,

1William Matz; his father and mother-in-law, John and Helen
2Lindquist; his brother, George Owens; and his brother-in-law,
3Michael Skowronski; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Jasper Owens is survived by his wife of 46 years,
5Nancy; his daughters, Karen (Marc) Cohen and Kathleen Owens;
6his grandson, Erik Cohen; his sister, Marlene Skowronski; his
7brother, William Matz; his sisters-in-law, Rosemary Owens and
8Lillian (Henry) Trygar; his many nieces, nephews,
9great-nieces, great-nephews, and a great-great-niece; as well
10as other family and friends; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Jasper "Jay" S. Owens, and extend our sincere condolences to
14his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Jasper Owens as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
