SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Bertha Lee Burns, who passed away on July
414, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bertha Burns was born on July 18, 1937 in Hughes,
6Arkansas; her parents were the Rev. Tony and Lucy Burnett; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Bertha Burns accepted Christ at an early age under
8the leadership of Pastor W.E. McKinney at Mount Pisbe
9Missionary Baptist Church in Croverville, Arkansas; and
 
10    WHEREAS, In the early 1960s, Bertha Burns relocated from
11Arkansas to Chicago, where she became a certified nurse at St.
12Elizabeth's Hospital; she served faithfully as a nurse for many
13years; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Bertha Burns enjoyed fishing, gardening, and
15cooking for everyone; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Bertha Burns was preceded in death by her parents;
17her son, Wilson "Cadillac Bill" Rodgers; her extended child,
18Fred "Mane Mane", Jr.; and her siblings, Nurse Watkins, Hiltha
19Miller, and James Burnett; and

1    WHEREAS, Bertha Burns is survived by her children, Amos,
2Dudley, Helen (John) Franklin, Dean, Feltain "Tina" (Yosef)
3Beard, Pamela (Paul) Huff, Monica (Michael) Heagle, Shanice,
4and Dyreck; her extended children, Pat Towns and Debra Ann
5(Floyd) Tucker; her siblings, Mattie Burnett, Ruth Brown, Ora
6Brown, Delores Burnett, Olivia Burnett, Lincoln Burnett, and
7Louvenia (Pastor Robin Hood) Dexter Burnett; and her nieces,
8nephews, grandchildren, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her
11family and friends, mourn the passing of Bertha Lee Burns; and
12be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Bertha Burns as an expression of our
15sympathy.
