SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Marvin Thomas Everett of Peoria, who
4passed away on July 23, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Marvin Everett was born on December 4, 1929; his
6parents were Earl W. and Margaret F. (Peplow) Everett; he
7married Phyllis Jean Ricks on January 7, 1950; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Marvin Everett retired from Caterpillar after 38
9years of dedicated service; he subsequently spent most of his
10retired life serving his community; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Marvin Everett was a proud member of United Auto
12Workers Local 974, where he served as a chief steward and
13skilled trades chairman; he served as a volunteer firefighter
14for Richwoods Township for 13 years, achieving the rank of
15assistant fire chief, and served as a volunteer firefighter at
16the Caterpillar Tech Center for 23 years; he was also a
17founding member of Rebuilding Together with Christmas in April
18in Peoria in 1994; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Marvin Everett was the recipient of numerous
20awards and honors, including the President's Call to Service
21Award in 2006, the Ray A. Neuman Award as Tri-County Citizen of

1the Year in 2010, the Christmas in April Hearts and Hammer
2Award in 1996, and the Eugene G. Moore Award for Community
3Service in 2002; he was also honored to be the grand marshal of
4the Peoria Labor Day Parade in 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Marvin Everett was preceded in death by his
6brothers, John Everett, Sr. and Thomas Everett, and his
7sisters, Shirley Maston, Margaret Wallman, and Geraldine
8Silverman; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Marvin Everett is survived by his wife, Phyllis;
10his children, Barbara Jean (Robert) Knock, Michael Thomas
11(Ginny) Everett, Karen Joyce Everett, James Arthur (Maura)
12Everett, and Teresa Ann (Tim) Schierer; his brothers and
13sisters, Phyllis C. (Ronald) Veiria, Valorie J. Everett,
14Earlene (Raymond) Martens, Mary K. Powers, Betty L. (Robert)
15Bohm, William (Ruby) Everett, and Robert (Nancy) Everett; his
16grandchildren, Teresa (Phillip) Portillo, Eric Knock, Michael
17(Laura) Everett, Jennifer Everett, Christopher (Erin) Everett,
18Lacey (Matt) Everett, and Kelli (Andrew) Phelps; and his
19great-grandchildren, Nicole Portillo, Antonio Portillo, Erika
20Knock, Morgan McClallen, Mariah McClallen, and Rilee Everett;
21therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
23ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his

1family and friends, mourn the passing of Marvin Thomas Everett;
2and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Marvin Everett as an expression of
5our sympathy.
