SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James Cooper of Waukegan, who passed away
4on June 3, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, James Cooper was born on April 26, 1931, in
6Jackson, Mississippi; his parents were Nathan and Mamie Cooper;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, James Cooper accepted Christ as his Lord and
9Savior at an early age while attending Mt. Nebo Baptist Church
10in Jackson, Mississippi; in 1953, he joined the First Baptist
11Church of North Chicago, where he served as a deacon for over
1250 years; and
 
13    WHEREAS, James Cooper was a graduate of Lanier High School
14in Jackson, Mississippi; after graduation, he attended Jackson
15State College for one year on a Brick Mason Scholarship before
16leaving to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps
17during the Korean Conflict; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Following his discharge from the Marine Corps,
19James Cooper relocated to Waukegan, where he worked briefly at
20the Veteran's Hospital before embarking on a career in
21communications as a telephone lineman at Fort Sheridan; and

1    WHEREAS, James Cooper is survived by his wife of 57 years,
2Mattie; his children, Dwight Cooper, Cynthia Cooper, Jeffery
3(LaSonya) Cooper, and Cassandra Cooper; his brothers, Nathan
4Cooper, Frank (Doris) Cooper; his sisters, Rosie Minter, Vinnie
5Medina, Mamie Miller, and Bettie (William) Johnson; his 7
6grandchildren; and his many nephews, nieces, cousins, and close
7friends; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
10his family and friends, the passing of James Cooper; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of James Cooper as an expression of our
14sympathy.
