SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James Cooper of Waukegan, who passed away on June 3, 2013; and

WHEREAS, James Cooper was born on April 26, 1931, in Jackson, Mississippi; his parents were Nathan and Mamie Cooper; and

WHEREAS, James Cooper accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age while attending Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi; in 1953, he joined the First Baptist Church of North Chicago, where he served as a deacon for over 50 years; and

WHEREAS, James Cooper was a graduate of Lanier High School in Jackson, Mississippi; after graduation, he attended Jackson State College for one year on a Brick Mason Scholarship before leaving to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict; and

WHEREAS, Following his discharge from the Marine Corps, James Cooper relocated to Waukegan, where he worked briefly at the Veteran's Hospital before embarking on a career in communications as a telephone lineman at Fort Sheridan; and

WHEREAS, James Cooper is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mattie; his children, Dwight Cooper, Cynthia Cooper, Jeffery (LaSonya) Cooper, and Cassandra Cooper; his brothers, Nathan Cooper, Frank (Doris) Cooper; his sisters, Rosie Minter, Vinnie Medina, Mamie Miller, and Bettie (William) Johnson; his 7 grandchildren; and his many nephews, nieces, cousins, and close friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of James Cooper; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James Cooper as an expression of our sympathy.
