SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Kamisha Danyette Hodge-Walker of Decatur,
4who passed away on June 12, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Kamisha Hodge-Walker was born April 29, 1976, in
6Decatur to Diane Belue and Thomas E. Walker; she graduated from
7Stephen Decatur High School in 1994, where she was a member of
8the National Honor Society, as well as the cheerleading squad,
9the volleyball team, and the student council, and she was
10crowned homecoming queen; she attended St. Louis University,
11graduating with honors in English and business administration;
12she was working towards a Master's degree from Webster
13University; she married Harlan Hodge on May 24, 1998; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Kamisha Hodge-Walker taught English at Brittany
15Woods Middle School in St. Louis, Missouri, for 2 years before
16moving back to Illinois; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Kamisha Hodge-Walker's faith was very important
18to her; she was reared in the Church of the Living God, the
19Pillar and Ground of the Truth, Temple #1, where she was active
20in the youth department and Bible drill team; while living in
21St. Louis she attended Shalom City of Peace; upon returning to
22Decatur, she was a member of the Main Street Church of the

1Living God; she participated in the women's mission and the
2noon day prayer, and served as a mentor with Youth With A
3Positive Direction; she was the visionary and founder of
4Decatur's Sunday Best and Family Feud; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Kamisha Hodge-Walker was preceded in death by her
6biological mother, Diane Belue Cook; her paternal grandfather,
7Roger Walker Sr.; her maternal grandmother, Jackie Miller; and
8her maternal grandfather, aunt, and uncle, L.C. and Leta
9Collins; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Kamisha Hodge-Walker is survived by her parents,
11Dr. Thomas E. Walker and Margaret A. Walker; her son, Brylan
12Hodge; her brothers, Pierre Perkins, Anthony Corey (Sylvia)
13Walker, and Shalen Walker; her sisters, Jalynn Walker and
14Shannon (Marlon) Joyner; her grandmother, Ida Lake-Walker; her
15uncles, Arthur Lee (Terri) Walker, Timothy Lake, Rev. Barnett
16(Laticia Faye) Belue, Cornell (Carmen) Belue, and Jerry Wayne
17Belue; her aunts, Hilda Walker and Shawn (Michael) Page; her
18great-aunts, Doris Lawrence, Mary Ann Boyd, and Jean (A.D.)
19Brooks; her great-uncle, Horace (Dimple) Walker; her special
20cousin, Tina (Sylvania) McDaniel; and a host of aunts, uncles,
21nephews, nieces, and other relatives; therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
23ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

1Kamisha Danyette Hodge-Walker, and extend our sincere
2condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
3her; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Kamisha Hodge-Walker as an
6expression of our deepest sympathy.
