SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Sholom I. Gliksman, who passed away on
4May 16, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Sholom Gliksman was born on May 18, 1943, in
6Chicago, and was raised in Detroit; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Sholom Gliksman was an alumnus of the Ida Crown
8Jewish Academy, the Chicago Theological Seminary, Roosevelt
9University, Loyola University, and Syracuse University; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Sholom Gliksman served as a chaplain during the
11Vietnam War and was stationed in Nha Trang; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Sholom Gliksman worked most of his life for
13nonprofit and government organizations, including the United
14Jewish Appeal, the Northern Illinois Planning Commission, and
15as a budget analyst for Cook County; after his retirement, he
16participated in Osher Lifelong Learning in Chicago, the PLATO
17program in Madison, and Limmud of Chicago as both a student and
18teacher; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Sholom Gliksman enjoyed spirited discussions
20about politics, history, religion, science, science fiction,

1and sports; he also enjoyed reading, collecting, nature, bird
2watching, and traveling; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Sholom Gliksman was a board member of Chicago
4Audubon, Oak Park Temple, and the Jewish Reconstructionist
5Congregation in Evanston; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Sholom Gliksman was preceded in death by his
7father, HaRav Shlomo HaCohen Gliksman; his mother, Anna
8Robinson; his brothers, Harry and Rabbi Mordechai Gliksman; and
9his sisters, Mrs. Sonya Gliksman Feigenbaum and Paula Gliksman;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, Sholom Gliksman is survived by his wife of 13
12years, Carol Brumer Gliksman; his brother, Rabbi Yosef Nadler;
13his in-laws, sisters-in-law, and their families; and his many
14beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors
15across the world; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
18his family and friends, the passing of Sholom I. Gliksman; and
19be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Sholom Gliksman as an expression of
