SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Sholom I. Gliksman, who passed away on May 16, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Sholom Gliksman was born on May 18, 1943, in Chicago, and was raised in Detroit; and

WHEREAS, Sholom Gliksman was an alumnus of the Ida Crown Jewish Academy, the Chicago Theological Seminary, Roosevelt University, Loyola University, and Syracuse University; and

WHEREAS, Sholom Gliksman served as a chaplain during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Nha Trang; and

WHEREAS, Sholom Gliksman worked most of his life for nonprofit and government organizations, including the United Jewish Appeal, the Northern Illinois Planning Commission, and as a budget analyst for Cook County; after his retirement, he participated in Osher Lifelong Learning in Chicago, the PLATO program in Madison, and Limmud of Chicago as both a student and teacher; and

WHEREAS, Sholom Gliksman enjoyed spirited discussions about politics, history, religion, science, science fiction, and sports; he also enjoyed reading, collecting, nature, bird watching, and traveling; and

WHEREAS, Sholom Gliksman was a board member of Chicago Audubon, Oak Park Temple, and the Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation in Evanston; and

WHEREAS, Sholom Gliksman was preceded in death by his father, HaRav Shlomo HaCohen Gliksman; his mother, Anna Robinson; his brothers, Harry and Rabbi Mordechai Gliksman; and his sisters, Mrs. Sonya Gliksman Feigenbaum and Paula Gliksman; and

WHEREAS, Sholom Gliksman is survived by his wife of 13 years, Carol Brumer Gliksman; his brother, Rabbi Yosef Nadler; his in-laws, sisters-in-law, and their families; and his many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors across the world; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Sholom I. Gliksman; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Sholom Gliksman as an expression of our sympathy.
