SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Earnest L. Thomas, who passed away on May 3, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Earnest Thomas was born on September 17, 1932, in Sparta, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Earnest Thomas received his education at Union High School and Georgia State College; he continued his education at Georgia Baptist College, where he earned his bachelor's degree in theology and his doctorate; and

WHEREAS, Earnest Thomas served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War; and

WHEREAS, Earnest Thomas was employed by the Chicago Public Schools as a teacher for more than 30 years; and

WHEREAS, Earnest Thomas was committed to community involvement and was affiliated with the NAACP, the 11th District Beat Representative, the Police District Steering Committee, and the Midwest Community Council; he also served as Executive Director of the 7th Congressional District Organization; and

WHEREAS, Earnest Thomas accepted Christ as his holy savior and was united with the Greater Garfield Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend George Henderson; and

WHEREAS, Earnest Thomas enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and reading; and

WHEREAS, Earnest Thomas was preceded in death by his mother, Corine Thomas; and

WHEREAS, Earnest Thomas is survived by his son, Tramaine (Shavon) Collins; his daughters, Tara and Tunga Collins; his grandsons, Tramaine Jr. and Darrious; his granddaughter, Capriah; his special friend, Ms. Rose; and his many other relatives and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Earnest L. Thomas; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Earnest Thomas as an expression of our sympathy.
