SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Earnest L. Thomas, who passed away on May
43, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Earnest Thomas was born on September 17, 1932, in
6Sparta, Georgia; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Earnest Thomas received his education at Union
8High School and Georgia State College; he continued his
9education at Georgia Baptist College, where he earned his
10bachelor's degree in theology and his doctorate; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Earnest Thomas served his country as a member of
12the United States Army during the Korean War; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Earnest Thomas was employed by the Chicago Public
14Schools as a teacher for more than 30 years; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Earnest Thomas was committed to community
16involvement and was affiliated with the NAACP, the 11th
17District Beat Representative, the Police District Steering
18Committee, and the Midwest Community Council; he also served as
19Executive Director of the 7th Congressional District
20Organization; and

1    WHEREAS, Earnest Thomas accepted Christ as his holy savior
2and was united with the Greater Garfield Baptist Church under
3the leadership of Reverend George Henderson; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Earnest Thomas enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling,
5and reading; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Earnest Thomas was preceded in death by his
7mother, Corine Thomas; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Earnest Thomas is survived by his son, Tramaine
9(Shavon) Collins; his daughters, Tara and Tunga Collins; his
10grandsons, Tramaine Jr. and Darrious; his granddaughter,
11Capriah; his special friend, Ms. Rose; and his many other
12relatives and friends; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
15his family and friends, the passing of Earnest L. Thomas; and
16be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Earnest Thomas as an expression of
19our sympathy.
