SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Nancy Jones of Elwood, who passed away on
4May 6, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Nancy Jones was born on February 28, 1936 and was
6raised in Joliet; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Nancy Jones graduated from St. Patrick's Grade
8School in Joliet with the class of 1950 and attended St.
9Francis Academy in Joliet; at the age of 15, she professed her
10vows as Sister Lauretta Charles, O.P. at the Adrian Michigan
11Dominican Sisters Motherhouse; she also earned her A.B. in
12philosophy from Siena Heights College in Adrian, Michigan; and
 
13    WHEREAS, As Sister Lauretta Charles, Nancy Jones taught for
1410 years in Catholic schools in California, Nevada, and
15Michigan; after she was released from her vows on her consent
16from the Holy See, she returned to Joliet to teach in the
17Lockport Public Schools; and
 
18    WHEREAS, In the 1970s, Nancy Jones was the first woman
19elected to the Laraway Grade School Board, where she served for
202 terms; she also served as a substitute teacher for many years
21at Laraway, Union, and Elwood Grade Schools; and

1    WHEREAS, Nancy Jones served as a realtor at Bell Realty of
2Joliet for many years; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Nancy Jones is preceded in death by her parents,
4Orville and Olive Olsen; her brothers, Charles and James Olsen;
5her uncle, Roy; her aunt, Pauline Olsen; and her nephew, James
6Olsen; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Nancy Jones is survived by her devoted husband of
848 years, Francis "Bud" Jones; her son, William (Annette)
9Jones; her daughter, Judge Sarah Jones; her sisters-in-law,
10Mary Virginia (Raymond) Sicinski, Kathleen Jones, and Jane
11Olsen; her brother-in-law, Raymond (Marilyn) Jones; and her
12many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
15her family and friends, the passing of Nancy Jones; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Nancy Jones as an expression of our
19sympathy.
