SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Roger D. Howerter of Canton, who passed away on April 27, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Roger Howerter was born on July 21, 1944, in Canton to Edward and Zelda Fickel Howerter; he married Rebecca E. Schorey on July 1, 1966, in Columbus; and

WHEREAS, Roger Howerter was a music teacher at Riverview Gardens School in Saint Louis County and later taught music at the Cuba School District, last teaching 3rd grade; and

WHEREAS, Roger Howerter was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Canton, where he was instrumental in the planning and construction of the new church; he was past choir and orchestra director; he enjoyed singing in the Spoon River Community Chorus, beekeeping, woodworking, and John Deere tractors; he was an avid gardener and his home was featured on the 2002 Garden Tour; and

WHEREAS, Roger Howerter was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Joshua; and his daughter-in-law, Wendy; and

WHEREAS, Roger Howerter is survived by his wife, Rebecca; his children, Timothy (Lori) Howerter, Stephen (Sheila) Howerter, John (Niki) Howerter, Jennifer (David) Bryant; and Jeremy Howerter; his brother, Rolland (Carol) Howerter; his sisters, Betty (Berton) Hollis and Avis (Paul) Blakenship; and his 14 grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Roger Howerter, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Roger Howerter as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
