SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Lola Hickey (nee Heller) of Rochester, who passed away on April 21, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Lola Hickey was born on October 23, 1916, in Elmira, New York, to Milton and Grace Weiss Heller; she was president of the student council during high school and captain of her high school's girls basketball team; she married Herschel Hickey on December 24, 1946, in Springfield; she and Herschel raised their family in Jacksonville; and

WHEREAS, Lola Hickey was a registered nurse and retired as the director of nursing at the Scott County Nursing Home; after retirement, she was a dedicated volunteer at Koke Mill Medical Center, Memorial Hospital, and Lewis Memorial Christian Home; in 2002, she was honored as YWCA "Woman of Excellence"; and

WHEREAS, Lola Hickey was an active member of Central Christian Church in Jacksonville and the Westside Christian Church in Springfield; affectionately known as "Grandma YoYo", she enjoyed following her grandchildren play sports, watching the Fighting Illini basketball team and the St. Louis Cardinals, playing games with her family and friends, and was a fierce card, domino, and Scrabble competitor; she also enjoyed camping and traveling and was a founding member with her husband of the Jacksonville Family Camper's Club; and

WHEREAS, Lola Hickey was preceded in death by her husband, and her sisters, Ethel Stoner and Mildred Hartz; and

WHEREAS, Lola Hickey is survived by her daughters, Martha Hickey (companion Orville), Norma Seibert, and Jan Hickey; her grandchildren, Robin (John) Schmidt, Janet Seibert, Ryan (Mendy) DuRocher, Julie (Mike) Keebler, and Scott (Toni) Seibert; and 15 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Lola Hickey, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lola Hickey as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
