SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Lola Hickey (nee Heller) of Rochester,
4who passed away on April 21, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lola Hickey was born on October 23, 1916, in
6Elmira, New York, to Milton and Grace Weiss Heller; she was
7president of the student council during high school and captain
8of her high school's girls basketball team; she married
9Herschel Hickey on December 24, 1946, in Springfield; she and
10Herschel raised their family in Jacksonville; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Lola Hickey was a registered nurse and retired as
12the director of nursing at the Scott County Nursing Home; after
13retirement, she was a dedicated volunteer at Koke Mill Medical
14Center, Memorial Hospital, and Lewis Memorial Christian Home;
15in 2002, she was honored as YWCA "Woman of Excellence"; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Lola Hickey was an active member of Central
17Christian Church in Jacksonville and the Westside Christian
18Church in Springfield; affectionately known as "Grandma YoYo",
19she enjoyed following her grandchildren play sports, watching
20the Fighting Illini basketball team and the St. Louis
21Cardinals, playing games with her family and friends, and was a
22fierce card, domino, and Scrabble competitor; she also enjoyed

1camping and traveling and was a founding member with her
2husband of the Jacksonville Family Camper's Club; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Lola Hickey was preceded in death by her husband,
4and her sisters, Ethel Stoner and Mildred Hartz; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lola Hickey is survived by her daughters, Martha
6Hickey (companion Orville), Norma Seibert, and Jan Hickey; her
7grandchildren, Robin (John) Schmidt, Janet Seibert, Ryan
8(Mendy) DuRocher, Julie (Mike) Keebler, and Scott (Toni)
9Seibert; and 15 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Lola Hickey, and extend our sincere condolences to her family,
13friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Lola Hickey as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
