SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Safety is the highest priority for the streets and
3highways of our State; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The great State of Illinois is proud to be a
5national leader in motorcycle safety, education, and
6awareness; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Motorcycles are a common and economical means of
8transportation that reduces fuel consumption and road wear, and
9contributes in a significant way to the relief of traffic and
10parking congestion; and
 
11    WHEREAS, It is especially meaningful that the citizens of
12our State be aware of motorcycles on the roadways and recognize
13the importance of motorcycle safety; and
 
14    WHEREAS, The members of A Brotherhood Aimed Toward
15Education (A.B.A.T.E.) of Illinois, Inc. continually promote
16motorcycle safety, education, and awareness in high school
17drivers' education programs and to the general public in our
18State, presenting motorcycle awareness programs to over
19100,000 participants in Illinois over the past 6 years; and
 
20    WHEREAS, All motorcyclists should proudly and actively

1promote the safe operation of motorcycles, as well as promote
2motorcycle safety, education, and awareness; and
 
3    WHEREAS, The motorcyclists of Illinois have contributed
4extensive volunteerism and money to national and community
5charitable organizations; and
 
6    WHEREAS, During the month of May, all roadway users should
7unite in the safe sharing of roadways within and throughout the
8great State of Illinois; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that in recognition of over
11610,000 registered motorcyclists statewide, 27 years of
12A.B.A.T.E. of Illinois, Inc., and in recognition of the
13continued role Illinois serves as a leader in motorcycle
14safety, education, and awareness, we do hereby proclaim the
15month of May as Motorcycle Awareness Month in the State of
16Illinois; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to A.B.A.T.E of Illinois as a symbol of our esteem
19and respect.
