SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Lyle E. Shields of Dewey, who passed away
4on April 5, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lyle Shields was born on July 26, 1923, in
6Champaign County; his parents were Fred and Bertha Shields; he
7married Lois Foster in 1945; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Lyle Shields followed in his grandfather and
9father's footsteps when he became a third-generation farmer; he
10farmed throughout his entire life; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Lyle Shields was active in area government and
12leadership activities; he was a member of the Champaign County
13Board for 41 years and served as chairman of the board from
141986 to 1996; he also served as Condit Township supervisor for
1536 years and as a volunteer fireman with the Sangamon Valley
16Fire Protection District for 40 years; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Lyle Shields served on the National Association of
18Counties for 11 years as a member of the board of directors; he
19served as president of the United Counties Council of Illinois
20for 2 years; he served as a Republican Precinct Committeeman
21for 30 years; he was also a member of the Champaign County Farm

1Bureau; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Lyle Shields was selected as Farm Leader of the
3Year by the Champaign-Urbana News Gazette in 1992; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Lyle Shields was preceded in death by his son,
5James Shields; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Lyle Shields is survived by his wife, Lois; his
7children, Eugene, Sandra (Jim) Stubbins, and Vicki; his
8daughter-in-law, Stacy; his grandchildren, Jeremy Shields
9(Ashley), Joshua Shields, Justin and Jonah Shields, Danielle
10Stubbins, and Jarad Stubbins; his great-granddaughter, Katie;
11his brother, Duane Shields; his sister-in-law, Pat; and his
12many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
15his family and friends, the passing of Lyle E. Shields; and be
16it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Lyle Shields as an expression of our
19sympathy.
