SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John H. VanGeem of Gurnee, formerly of Waukegan, who passed away on April 11, 2013; and

WHEREAS, John VanGeem was born on November 15, 1922, in Evanston, and was an area resident for many years; and

WHEREAS, John VanGeem was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Forces as a gunner on a B-24 in the South Pacific; and

WHEREAS, John VanGeem worked as a painter decorator for his entire life in the family business, which was started in 1881; and

WHEREAS, John VanGeem was a member of Trinity United Lutheran Church in Waukegan, AMVETS, the Waukegan YMCA, and the Swedish Glee Club; and

WHEREAS, John VanGeem was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his parents, John and Lillian VanGeem; and his sisters, Jeanette, Helen, Ruth, and Lillian; and

WHEREAS, John VanGeem is survived by his children, Curtis VanGeem, John VanGeem, and Lisa (Ken) Ruley; his daughter-in-law, Barb Joynson; his grandchildren, Katie VanGeem, John VanGeem, Mitchell Ruley, and Ross Ruley; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of John H. VanGeem; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John VanGeem as an expression of our sympathy.
