SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply
3saddened to learn of the death of Gerald W. "Jerry" Schmidt of
4Godfrey, who passed away on December 28, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gerald Schmidt was born on October 2, 1924, in
6Alton to Leo and Florence (Lengacher) Schmidt; he graduated
7from Marquette High School in 1942 and served in the U.S. Navy
8during World War II on the USS New Jersey from 1942 to 1945;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Gerald Schmidt married Bonnidel "Bonnie" Brooks
11on September 10, 1949, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton;
12he graduated from Quincy College in 1950; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Gerald Schmidt was a member of St. Ambrose
14Catholic Church, the Alton Eagles FOE No. 254, the Godfrey
15Knights of Columbus, and a lifetime member of the VFW Post
161308; he enjoyed golfing, gardening, traveling, fishing, and
17was an avid fan of his children and grandchildren's activities
18and sports games; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Gerald Schmidt was preceded in death by his
20daughter-in-law, Mary Pat Walters Schmidt; his grandson, Drew
21Schmidt; his brothers, Ralph and Marvin Schmidt; his

1sister-in-law, Marilyn Drose; and a brother-in-law, Jerry
2Brooks; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Gerald Schmidt is survived by his wife, Bonnidel;
4his daughter, LeAnn (Ric); his sons, Jim (Pam) Schmidt, Robert
5(Janie) Schmidt, and Tom (Susie) Schmidt; his grandchildren,
6Emily Lacy (Justin), Adam "Buzz" Schmidt, Allison Schmidt, Matt
7Schmidt, Frank Scaduto (Carly), Mary Scaduto, Andrea Scaduto,
8Joe Scaduto, Katie Wuellner, Michael Wuellner, Dustin Johns,
9Kellin Johns, Cassidy Johns, Larrin Johns, Christopher
10Schmidt, Jonathan "Jonah" Schmidt, and Andrew Schmidt; his
11nieces and nephews; his brother, Elden Schmidt; his sister,
12Marcella (Jim) Clasby; and his sister-in-law, Clara (Bill)
13Reinhardt; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Gerald Schmidt, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
17family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Gerald Schmidt as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
