SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Gerald W. "Jerry" Schmidt of Godfrey, who passed away on December 28, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Schmidt was born on October 2, 1924, in Alton to Leo and Florence (Lengacher) Schmidt; he graduated from Marquette High School in 1942 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS New Jersey from 1942 to 1945; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Schmidt married Bonnidel "Bonnie" Brooks on September 10, 1949, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton; he graduated from Quincy College in 1950; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Schmidt was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, the Alton Eagles FOE No. 254, the Godfrey Knights of Columbus, and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1308; he enjoyed golfing, gardening, traveling, fishing, and was an avid fan of his children and grandchildren's activities and sports games; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Schmidt was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Mary Pat Walters Schmidt; his grandson, Drew Schmidt; his brothers, Ralph and Marvin Schmidt; his sister-in-law, Marilyn Drose; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Brooks; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Schmidt is survived by his wife, Bonnidel; his daughter, LeAnn (Ric); his sons, Jim (Pam) Schmidt, Robert (Janie) Schmidt, and Tom (Susie) Schmidt; his grandchildren, Emily Lacy (Justin), Adam "Buzz" Schmidt, Allison Schmidt, Matt Schmidt, Frank Scaduto (Carly), Mary Scaduto, Andrea Scaduto, Joe Scaduto, Katie Wuellner, Michael Wuellner, Dustin Johns, Kellin Johns, Cassidy Johns, Larrin Johns, Christopher Schmidt, Jonathan "Jonah" Schmidt, and Andrew Schmidt; his nieces and nephews; his brother, Elden Schmidt; his sister, Marcella (Jim) Clasby; and his sister-in-law, Clara (Bill) Reinhardt; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Gerald Schmidt, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Gerald Schmidt as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
