SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Odie C. Carpenter Sr.; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Odie Carpenter Sr. was born on January 4, 1925, in
5Macon, Mississippi; his parents were Susie Dolly and Henry
6Carpenter; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Odie Carpenter Sr. attended school in Macon,
8Mississippi; he later moved to East St. Louis and enlisted into
9the United States Army as a military policeman; he was awarded
10a Victory Medal for his service during World War II; while he
11was in the military, he met and married Ramona Carpenter; and
 
12    WHEREAS, After his stint in the Army, Odie Carpenter Sr.
13returned to East St. Louis and began selling insurance for the
14Supreme Life Insurance Company; he later began working at St.
15Clair Laundry; he then left St. Clair and became a mail handler
16with the United States Postal Service, where he served
17faithfully until his retirement after 29 years of service;
18after his retirement from the Postal Service, he served as a
19school crossing guard for the East St. Louis School District
20189; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Odie Carpenter Sr. was a member of Friendship

1Missionary Baptist Church and served for many years on the
2church's Usher Board; while serving the ushers, he concurrently
3served as the treasurer and kept a watchful eye on the
4ministries revenue; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Odie Carpenter Sr. was preceded in death by his
6parents; his sister and brother; and his son; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Odie Carpenter Sr. is survived by his wife of 65
8years, Ramona Carpenter; his daughter, Wanda; his sons, Odie
9Jr. (Patricia), Danny (Valerie), and Tyrone (Linda); his 14
10grandchildren; his 26 great-grandchildren; his special cousin,
11Willie Reed; and his many nieces, nephews, other family
12members, and friends; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
15his family and friends, the passing of Odie C. Carpenter Sr.;
16and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Odie Carpenter Sr. as an expression
19of our sympathy.
