SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of the Rev. Joseph Marquis Wilcox, who
4passed away on October 18, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rev. Wilcox was born in Mansfield, Ohio on
6September 23, 1923 to J. Dale and Edith (nee House) Wilcox; he
7graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1941 and from
8Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky in December of
91945, with a major in philosophy; he married Emily Rees Marsh
10on May 4, 1946, and he received his Bachelor of Divinity from
11the Oberlin College Graduate School of Theology in Oberlin,
12Ohio in 1949; and
 
13    WHEREAS, After graduating from seminary, Rev. Wilcox
14served as youth pastor at Walnut Hills Christian Church in
15Cincinnati, Ohio; he moved to First Christian Church in
16Bellaire, Ohio in 1952, to Parma Christian Church in Parma,
17Ohio in 1955, and then to First Christian Church in Waukegan,
18where he served as pastor for 12 years; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Rev. Wilcox was an active member of the Chicago
20Area Disciple's regional fellowship; in 1975, he received his
21Chaplain's Certificate and became the chaplain at Westlake
22Hospital in Melrose Park, where he served for 12 and a half

1years; following that, he served as chaplain at the Winchester
2House in Libertyville for 9 years; he then returned to Gurnee
3and served as minster at Gurnee Community Church for 3 years,
4where the congregation named him pastor-emeritus; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rev. Wilcox was preceded in death by his parents
6and his brother, John David Wilcox; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Rev. Wilcox is survived by his wife, Emily Rees;
8their 3 children, Emily Wilcox Denesha (Mike), Amy Wilcox-Owens
9(Rick), and Joseph Dale Wilcox (Jean); his 7 grandchildren; his
103 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Eleanor Wilcox Lime;
11therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14the Rev. Joseph Marquis Wilcox, and extend our sincere
15condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
16him; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Rev. Wilcox as an expression of our
19deepest sympathy.
