SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Josephine "Jo" Piktel of North Chicago, who passed away on October 15, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Josephine Piktel was born on March 11, 1917 to John and Pauline Treven; she was a member of Queen of Peace in North Chicago, formerly Mother of God; she was involved in St. Mary's KSKJ #79 where she was on many basketball and bowling teams with her sisters; and

WHEREAS, Josephine Piktel was known as "Aunt Jo" by many; she cooked for every occasion and she taught anyone who wanted to learn how to bake her delicious treats; with her husband, she loved to go perch fishing off the south pier at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center which resulted in numerous fish fries in their back yard; she was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and a fan of many other sports that she enjoyed watching all year round; she always enjoyed visits from her great and great-great-nieces and nephews; and

WHEREAS, Josephine Piktel was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her parents; her sisters, Rose Terchek, Mary Deram, and Pauline Galinis; her brother, John Treven; and her nephew, John Deram; and

WHEREAS, Josephine Piktel is survived by her nephews, Tom (Lynn) Deram, Mike (Noreen) Galinis, Tim (Venetia) Terchek, and Fred (Linda) Treven; her niece, Alice (Derry) Mumford; and numerous great and great-great-nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Josephine "Jo" Piktel, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Josephine Piktel as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
