SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Major (Ret.) Alfred Earl Clark, Jr., who passed away on September 26, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Alfred Clark, Jr. was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on April 17, 1943 to Alfred Earl Clark, Sr. and Thelma Adams; he attended Miller Elementary School and graduated from Fifth Avenue Junior and Senior High School in Pittsburgh in 1961; he received his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, North Carolina and his Master of Arts in Administration and Supervision from Roosevelt University in Chicago; he married to Donna Sue Thomas on August 19, 1972 in Austin, Texas; and

WHEREAS, Alfred Clark, Jr. served as a Major in the United States Army; he served during the Vietnam War and received an Honorable Discharge; in January of 1989, he retired from the United States Army Reserve; he was a recipient of the Bronze Star and numerous other military honors; and

WHEREAS, Alfred Clark, Jr. was an educator for 30 years in the public schools of North Chicago and Chicago; his educational career started as a mathematics and science teacher, football and track coach, and continued as dean of students, assistant principal, principal, athletic director, director of adult education, and in the superintendent's cabinet as director of student services, transportation, and school safety; he was instrumental in sponsoring 3 high school students for the Alfred Clark Scholarship Award in North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, Alfred Clark, Jr. was a member of Green's Temple Church of God in Pittsburgh and then Shiloh Baptist Church of Waukegan; and

WHEREAS, Alfred Clark, Jr. was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Alfred Clark, Jr. is survived by his wife, Donna Sue; his son, Jadaun; 3 siblings, Rose (Jacob) Reid, John (Sylvia) Clark, and Cheryl Clark; his aunt, Mary Lee Seay; 3 sisters-in-law, Georgia Thomas, Mae Turman, and Linda Thomas; 2 brothers-in-law, Augustus Williams and George Thomas (Cheryl); 10 nieces; 9 nephews; 18 cousins; 3 godchildren; and a host of other relatives, friends, and precious former students; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Major (Ret.) Alfred Earl Clark, Jr., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Alfred Clark, Jr. as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
