SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of William "Bill" Best Bounds, Jr., who
4passed away on November 11, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, William Bounds, Jr. was born on August 3, 1924 in
6Blanchard, Oklahoma; his parents were William and Beulah (nee
7Irwin) Bounds, Sr.; he married Julia E. Carr on June 20, 1958
8in St. Paul, Minnesota; and
 
9    WHEREAS, William Bounds, Jr. proudly served his country as
10a member of the United States Navy; and
 
11    WHEREAS, William Bounds, Jr. began his career as a truck
12driver for the Denver-Chicago Trucking Company and Halls
13Freight Lines; he later went to work for James R. Hoffa in the
141960s as a union organizer; he subsequently continued his
15career with the Teamsters Local 26 in Danville as a business
16agent and was later elected president of Teamsters Local 26,
17where he served for 30 years; he also served as president of
18the Teamsters Joint Council 65 in Springfield for approximately
1918 years, where he oversaw parts of 4 states and 30,000
20members; and
 
21    WHEREAS, William Bounds, Jr. served on many boards in

1Vermilion County, including the CRIS Healthy Aging Center, the
2Vermilion Regional Airport Authority, the Danville Area Labor
3Management Council, and the Vermilion County Animal Shelter; he
4was a past member of the Knights of Columbus and the Loyal
5Order of Moose and a member of St. Paul Catholic Church; and
 
6    WHEREAS, William Bounds, Jr. had a love for all animals,
7especially his dog Missy; he also loved sports and country
8music, especially George Jones, and enjoyed singing and
9recording several songs; and
 
10    WHEREAS, William Bounds, Jr. was preceded in death by his
11parents; his wife, Julia; a brother, Stanley Bounds; and 2
12sisters, Shirley Patterson and Jackie York; and
 
13    WHEREAS, William Bounds, Jr. is survived by 2 sons, Stephen
14Bounds and Mark (Susan) Bounds; a daughter, Angela (Mark)
15Hodgson; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and
16nephews; a brother-in-law, Pat (Martha) Carr; a sister-in-law
17and best friend, Carmen "Sue" Carr; and his many friends;
18therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
21family and friends, mourn the passing of William "Bill" Best
22Bounds, Jr.; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of William Bounds, Jr. as an expression
3of our sympathy.
