SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Helen E. McLean of Crystal Lake, who passed away on September 5, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Helen McLean was born in Columbus, Wisconsin on July 27, 1922 to William and Bertha Hundley; she graduated from Columbus High School in 1940; and

WHEREAS, Helen McLean worked several administrative jobs and eventually obtained a position with the United States Civil Service in 1948; she was assigned to the U.S. Army Air Force base on the Pacific island of Guam; she married Leslie McLean, a sergeant in the Army Air Force; and

WHEREAS, During her husband's career, Helen McLean and her family were stationed at bases in Hawaii, Georgia, Virginia, and Illinois; she was a very dedicated mother, volunteering for several activities while her sons were growing up, including Cub Scout pack leader, Sunday school teacher, PTA committees, and grade school chaperone for class parties and field trips; she returned to work for the civil service at Chicago's O'Hare airport military complex when her sons entered junior high school in the early 1960s; she retired from civil service after a long and distinguished career following the death of her husband in 1975, eventually returning to Columbus to live; and

WHEREAS, During her retirement, Helen McLean traveled often, visiting China and several European countries; in the fall of each year, she would travel to New England to visit friends; her devotion to family continued with her being very active and supportive in the lives of her grandchildren; she was a member of the Wisconsin Synod Lutheran Church; and

WHEREAS, Helen McLean was the beloved wife of the late Leslie; the loving mother of Leslie R. III (Linda) and David (Deborah); the cherished grandmother of Dori (Ross) Logerquist, Andrew (Jess), Jennifer (Steve) Becker, and Evan; the proud great-grandmother of Seth, Sam, Isabelle, and Avery; and the dear sister of Russell (Laura) Hundley, Rachel (Elton) Ott, and Carol Peck; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Helen E. McLean, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Helen McLean as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
