SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Helen E. McLean of Crystal Lake, who
4passed away on September 5, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Helen McLean was born in Columbus, Wisconsin on
6July 27, 1922 to William and Bertha Hundley; she graduated from
7Columbus High School in 1940; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Helen McLean worked several administrative jobs
9and eventually obtained a position with the United States Civil
10Service in 1948; she was assigned to the U.S. Army Air Force
11base on the Pacific island of Guam; she married Leslie McLean,
12a sergeant in the Army Air Force; and
 
13    WHEREAS, During her husband's career, Helen McLean and her
14family were stationed at bases in Hawaii, Georgia, Virginia,
15and Illinois; she was a very dedicated mother, volunteering for
16several activities while her sons were growing up, including
17Cub Scout pack leader, Sunday school teacher, PTA committees,
18and grade school chaperone for class parties and field trips;
19she returned to work for the civil service at Chicago's O'Hare
20airport military complex when her sons entered junior high
21school in the early 1960s; she retired from civil service after
22a long and distinguished career following the death of her

1husband in 1975, eventually returning to Columbus to live; and
 
2    WHEREAS, During her retirement, Helen McLean traveled
3often, visiting China and several European countries; in the
4fall of each year, she would travel to New England to visit
5friends; her devotion to family continued with her being very
6active and supportive in the lives of her grandchildren; she
7was a member of the Wisconsin Synod Lutheran Church; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Helen McLean was the beloved wife of the late
9Leslie; the loving mother of Leslie R. III (Linda) and David
10(Deborah); the cherished grandmother of Dori (Ross)
11Logerquist, Andrew (Jess), Jennifer (Steve) Becker, and Evan;
12the proud great-grandmother of Seth, Sam, Isabelle, and Avery;
13and the dear sister of Russell (Laura) Hundley, Rachel (Elton)
14Ott, and Carol Peck; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Helen E. McLean, and extend our sincere condolences to her
18family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Helen McLean as an expression of our
22deepest sympathy.
