SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Alma Aizkalns of Vernon Hills, who passed away on August 20, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Alma Aizkalns was born in Broceni, Latvia; she came to the United States in 1949 and became a citizen in 1954; and

WHEREAS, Alma Aizkalns was a long-time resident of Jamestown, New York, where she raised her family; she was a buyer for Quality Markets Food Stores and was active with her church and the local Lions Club; and

WHEREAS, Alma Aizkalns relocated to Vernon Hills in 2010 and was an active member of the Vernon Hills Senior Center; she enjoyed watching the Buffalo Bills and the Chicago Bears and playing bingo with her friends at Pathways Senior Housing; and

WHEREAS, Alma Aizkalns was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Arturs Aizkalns, and her son, Ivar Aizkalns; and

WHEREAS, Alma Aizkalns is survived by her 2 daughters, Sylvia (Steven) Freije and Cindy (Larry) Hebda and 5 grandchildren, Laura Aizkalns, Jason (Leslie) Aizkalns, Kenneth Freije, Catherine Freije, and Stephanie (Andy) Eddleman; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Alma Aizkalns, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Alma Aizkalns as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
