SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James Atkinson of North Chicago, who passed away on June 25, 2014; and

WHEREAS, James Atkinson was born on May 6, 1955 in Waukegan and raised in North Chicago; and

WHEREAS, James Atkinson worked for the United States Postal Service at its North Chicago office for more than 30 years; and

WHEREAS, James Atkinson was a long-time member of Tiny's Social Club and an officer of the Zion Benton Moose Lodge; he lent his skills as a painter, carpenter, cook, server, bartender, and grill master to many people and charity events; he played Santa or an elf for the residents at the Kiley Developmental Center and NorthPointe Resources in Zion for several years; and

WHEREAS, James Atkinson was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Sis Atkinson, and by one sister, Diane Ptasienski; and

WHEREAS, James Atkinson is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Atkinson (Jason Clark); a son, James Jay Atkinson Jr.; 3 sisters, Starr Atkinson, Shelly (Wally) Jakaitis, and Kathy (Barry) Delk; one brother, Elmer "Butch" Atkinson; a brother-in-law, Greg Ptasienski; his companions, Vicky and Roxy; 3 grandsons, Jaden, Charlie, and Tobias; and many loving nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of James Atkinson, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James Atkinson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
