SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John Joseph Phipps of Waukegan, who passed away on May 9, 2014; and

WHEREAS, John Phipps was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1932 to Albertus and Velma Phipps; he earned his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from the Case Institute of Technology in 1955 and married Mary Lou that same year; and

WHEREAS, John Phipps was a licensed professional engineer, spending most of his career at the Boeing Company and Abbott Laboratories; he retired from Abbott in 1993; and

WHEREAS, John Phipps was an Elder and Trustee at First Presbyterian Church in Waukegan; he enjoyed playing bridge and golf and working on rehabbing his 135-year old house; each winter he and his wife traveled to Gulf Shores, Alabama; and

WHEREAS, John Phipps was preceded in death by his father, Albertus Phipps; mother, Velma Phipps (nee Watson); and his sisters, Phyllis Hoffman and Alice Sultz; and

WHEREAS, John Phipps is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Lou Phipps (nee Hall); his daughters, Patricia Woertz (Gary Woertz), Pamela Bullock (Charles Bullock); one son, Alan Phipps (Kathleen Hill); 10 grandchildren, Amy Thayer (Matthew Thayer, Jeremy Woertz, Daniel Bullock, Joanna Dorsey (Mitchell Dorsey), Karen Bullock, Ian Phipps, Nathan Phipps, Eleanor Woertz, Hannah Phipps, and Maura Phipps; 3 great-grandchildren, Levi Woertz, Harper Dorsey, and Madison Dorsey; and numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of John Joseph Phipps, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Phipps as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
