SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John Joseph Phipps of Waukegan, who
4passed away on May 9, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Phipps was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana in
61932 to Albertus and Velma Phipps; he earned his Bachelor of
7Science in Industrial Engineering from the Case Institute of
8Technology in 1955 and married Mary Lou that same year; and
 
9    WHEREAS, John Phipps was a licensed professional engineer,
10spending most of his career at the Boeing Company and Abbott
11Laboratories; he retired from Abbott in 1993; and
 
12    WHEREAS, John Phipps was an Elder and Trustee at First
13Presbyterian Church in Waukegan; he enjoyed playing bridge and
14golf and working on rehabbing his 135-year old house; each
15winter he and his wife traveled to Gulf Shores, Alabama; and
 
16    WHEREAS, John Phipps was preceded in death by his father,
17Albertus Phipps; mother, Velma Phipps (nee Watson); and his
18sisters, Phyllis Hoffman and Alice Sultz; and
 
19    WHEREAS, John Phipps is survived by his wife of 58 years,
20Mary Lou Phipps (nee Hall); his daughters, Patricia Woertz

1(Gary Woertz), Pamela Bullock (Charles Bullock); one son, Alan
2Phipps (Kathleen Hill); 10 grandchildren, Amy Thayer (Matthew
3Thayer, Jeremy Woertz, Daniel Bullock, Joanna Dorsey (Mitchell
4Dorsey), Karen Bullock, Ian Phipps, Nathan Phipps, Eleanor
5Woertz, Hannah Phipps, and Maura Phipps; 3
6great-grandchildren, Levi Woertz, Harper Dorsey, and Madison
7Dorsey; and numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10John Joseph Phipps, and extend our sincere condolences to his
11family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of John Phipps as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
