SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Bernice M. Lafontaine, who passed away on May 19, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Bernice Lafontaine was born on June 29, 1927 in Johnsburg; her parents were George and Emma (nee Miller) King; she married Eugene Lafontaine on June 14, 1947; and

WHEREAS, Bernice Lafontaine was employed at the Jewel grocery store in McHenry for 20 years; and

WHEREAS, Bernice Lafontaine was a member of St. Patrick's Church for 66 years; and

WHEREAS, Bernice Lafontaine was well known as the "Cookie Lady" due to her love of baking cookies for all occasions; she also enjoyed visits with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in participating in card clubs with her friends in McHenry and Zephyrhills, Florida; and

WHEREAS, Bernice Lafontaine was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene, and her brother, George "Jim" King, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Bernice Lafontaine is survived by 3 children, Kathy M. (Gene) Hashley, Tim (Val) Lafontaine, and Tom (Pepper) Lafontaine; grandchildren, Jennifer Hashley and Pete Lowy, Matt and Katie Hashley, Pete and Erin Hashley, Tiffany and Kyle Sobczak, Kyle and Stephanie Lafontaine, Jessica Lafontaine, and Tyler Lafontaine; great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Benjamin, and Joshua Hashley, Abraham Lowy, and Addison and Brayden Sobczak; sisters, Marie Klinker and Edna Paddock of McHenry; and her loving caregiver, Emma Tiu; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Bernice M. Lafontaine; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bernice Lafontaine as an expression of our sympathy.
