SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Robert T. Fleming of Normal, who passed away on May 16, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Robert Fleming was born in Normal on June 19, 1923 to Birney and Carrie (nee Brown) Fleming; he attended Illinois Wesleyan University (IWU) where he was class president, University "W" Club president, University Council president, Sigma Chi Fraternity president, and varsity baseball captain for 2 years; he earned his Juris Doctor from Northwestern University in 1949 and married Myra "Mikey" King on November 1, 1952 at Second Presbyterian Church in Bloomington; and

WHEREAS, Robert Fleming returned to Bloomington-Normal and carried on the 3rd generation of practicing law; and

WHEREAS, Robert Fleming was an active member of the community, both professionally and personally, holding presidential roles with the IWU Alumni Association, the Board of Trustees for Second Presbyterian Church, the Bloomington Country Club, the McLean County Bar Association, the Commerce Bank Board of Directors, and many other organizations, clubs, and affiliations; he also served as legal counsel to McLean County Unit District No. 5 for more than 40 years; and

WHEREAS, Robert Fleming was preceded in death by his wife, Myra; his parents; and a brother, John Fleming; and

WHEREAS, Robert Fleming is survived by 2 daughters, Elizabeth "Libby" (Mark) McIntyre and Nancy (Stephen) Snyder; 2 sons, Robert T. (Cathy) Fleming Jr. and Steven K. (Jodi) Fleming; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a sister, Joan (Vic) Winter; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Robert T. Fleming, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Robert Fleming as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
