SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of former Lake County Chief Judge David Michael Hall of Waukegan, who passed away on May 20, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Judge Hall was born in Racine, Wisconsin on October 18, 1952 and grew up in Waukegan; he graduated from Waukegan Township High School and earned his law degree from the Loyola University School of Law in New Orleans, Louisiana; and

WHEREAS, Judge Hall began as an attorney in Waukegan in 1976 when he joined the firm Hall, Meyer, Fisher, Holmberg, & Snook, which had been founded by his late grandfather and where his father had also worked; 5 years later, he formed his own firm with a friend; he was appointed an associate judge in 1989 and, in 2000, he was appointed a circuit judge; later that year, he was elected to a 6-year term and re-elected in 2006; he was elected by his peers as Chief Judge in 2007; he retired in 2012; and

WHEREAS, Judge Hall was a member and chairman of the Lake County Family YMCA Board, a musician in the band Target, and member of the Waukegan City Club; he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends in Eagle River, Wisconsin; and

WHEREAS, Judge Hall was preceded in death by his daughter, Meagan; and

WHEREAS, Judge Hall is survived by his wife, Karen (nee Thorvaldsen); children, Karsten (Susan) Hall, Soren (Susan) Hall, Bjorn Hall, and Anna Britt Hall; grandchildren, Addison, Ella, and Avery; his parents, Albert and Katy Hall; siblings, Terry Hall, Maggie Hall, and Diane Pendergast; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of former Lake County Chief Judge David Michael Hall, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Judge David Hall as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
